What is the Division of Liberal Arts ?

All the students study the liberal arts including the fundamentals of engineering in the five-year program so as to acquire knowledge needed as cultured members of society.

We offer courses in general subjects. These courses account for almost half of the total class hours in the five-year program.

NIT Numazu College has five industrial departments. Our students attend the college to be engineers with highly specialized knowledge. They also need to have broad knowledge as cultured members of society.

We have two important objectives:

  • The students need to be provided with a solid foundation upon which to build their understanding of their major.
  • Moreover, we wish for them to become well-rounded and cultivated individuals, with broad knowledge and the social skills essential in the business world.

To achieve these goals, we have put together the Division of Liberal Arts, a team of excellent teachers, all experts in their fields, offering courses in general subjects: the humanities as well as the basics of social and natural sciences (similar to what is taught in mainstream high schools and universities).

We have also given consideration to the development of "a sound mind in a sound body", with health education and with the cultivation of artistic sentiments through music and fine art courses, so that the overall curriculum does not overemphasize technical expertise.

These courses account for almost half of the total class hours in the five-year program of the college.
